What to expect from your treatment
There are many different types and techniques of chiropractic that have evolved. At this clinic we specialise in the McTimoney technique, a technique that is renowned for being gentle but extremely effective. As such, it is often described as pleasant and even relaxing to receive. The speed and specificity of the adjustments allow for this apparent ‘gentleness’ whilst still producing a really powerful and effective treatment.
Every time you visit your chiropractor she will fully assess your whole body to determine where adjustment is necessary. However, at your first appointment your chiropractor will also carry out a full examination and ask questions about your lifestyle, posture and medical history. This will help her to discover the true cause of any pain or discomfort you may have, offer a diagnosis of your complaint and suggest the most suitable treatment for you. At this stage it may be determined that some extra medical diagnostics are needed to get the full picture or that referral to or integrated care with a medical specialist or another type of therapy is needed to give you the best possible care for your particular situation. However, the great majority of cases are suitable for immediate chiropractic care and treatment will usually be begun at this first appointment.
The chiropractor’s findings will be explained and an advised treatment plan and likely prognosis will be discussed before, with your permission, the first treatment is carried out. The chiropractor will then use her hands to carry out several gentle, specific adjustments (as described above) on whichever joints need adjusting in your particular case. Your chiropractor may also encourage you to participate in your care through exercises, specific after treatment care (e.g. ice) or postural advice if this is appropriate.
